Building Wayanad's Sandalwood Story, One Plot at a Time
From a single plantation idea in 2024 to a multi-project land and eco-tourism portfolio across the Western Ghats.
Interview With 24 News — Top Media in Kerala
Started with one question: why isn't India growing its own sandalwood?
Juspaid International began with a simple observation — India consumes far more sandalwood than it produces, while neighbouring countries built entire plantation industries using Indian-origin seed stock. In 2024, two brothers set out to bring scattered, informal sandalwood cultivation in Kerala into one organised, secured, group-farming model.
That first initiative, the Sandalwood Group Farming Welfare Association, has since grown into a wider portfolio spanning plantation land, eco-tourism, and integrated farming — all rooted in the Western Ghats.
Three principles behind every project we build
Title First
Land is registered and handed over with proper sale deed documentation — buyers hold an actual title, not a unit in a pooled fund.
Science-Led Cultivation
We work with IWST Bangalore's Hestorium methodology to pursue heartwood formation on a shorter, better-documented timeline than traditional cultivation.
Security as Infrastructure
Fencing, surveillance, and patrol coverage aren't an afterthought — they're built into the cost of every plantation plot from day one.
Why the Western Ghats — and why Pulpally specifically
Heartwood formation is the deciding factor for where sandalwood can be commercially cultivated.
Of Kerala and Karnataka's Western Ghats districts, our plantation work is concentrated around Pulpally in Wayanad — chosen over alternatives like Idukki specifically for disaster-risk reasons.
- ✓ Wayanad shows comparatively lower landslide-hazard classification than several other Western Ghats districts, per Kerala State Disaster Management Authority hazard mapping.
- ✓ The Sulthan Bathery and Pulpally belt offers verified clear-title agricultural land suited to long-cycle cultivation.
- ✓ Established eco-tourism demand in the district supports the resort and farm-tourism side of our portfolio.
Note: no location is fully risk-free from natural hazards. We choose sites using available government hazard data, but this is not a guarantee against landslide, flood, or other natural events.
